Brief Description:  Rudder Trailing Edge Match Drilling

Finally after an extended break from working, I got a chance to get back in the shop and work on the airplane, albeit briefly.

In this log entry, I document how I was able to successfully match drill the trailing edge of the rudder. The directions indicate that the skin needs to be drilled at a 90-degree angle to each side. what I interpreted this to mean, was that the trailing edge wedge could only be drilled down so much, or in other words, you just can't drill from one side of the rudder straight through to the other.

To respect this, I set the drill guide to a depth that would only allow me to drill through the skin and only slightly into the trailing edge wedge. Note: the trailing edge wedge will later use these match drilled holes to be countersunk to accept the dimples in the skin. So all you are creating is a hole that indicates the precise location of a hole that will later be opened up with a countersink cutter.

To drill the rudder, I first ensured that the trailing edge was clecoed at intervals on both sides then slowly went along and match drilled the holes. After drilling the open holes, I moved the clecos to drilled holes and, and then drilled the holes that I had missed. After completing one side, I flipped the rudder over and completed the opposite side.
