Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Work #2

I then skipped ahead in the directions and match drilled the W-423 joiner plate for the K-1100-08 plate nuts, then upsized the matching holes with a #19 drill bit for the #8 screw dimples that willl be inserted later. Now the W-423 is prepared for counter sinking, dimpling and priming in preparation for installation.

I next moved onto matching the outboard T-703/T-410 together. I measured 2D+1/16 in from the outer edge of the T-410, and then drilled five #30 holes, reasoning that bigger rivets were better for this corner. After completion I was a bit concerned becasue the T-410 plate did not extend down to being flush with the skin. I'll call Van's and if this is not correct, I'll reorder a plate, trim it flush, and re-drill the new plate into position.

I next moved to the T-407 Tank ring and the T-408 Access plate. I marked the hole circumfrance using the T-407 as a guide, then matched the correct position for the T-408 using drawing #16A. The tech guide indicated that the 5/32" clecos necessary to secure the plate to rib matched with a #21 dril bit. So I used a #21 to drill the holes and progressively used my 5/32nd clecos to secure the plate in position. After completing the inspection plate, I used the drilled holes in the rib as a guide and match drilled the nut plate locations in the T-703 rib using the T-407 tank ring as a guide.
