I got an opportunity to re-cut the replacement right elevator counter balance. This time, I under cut the weight, the plans specefied a minimum of 1/2" to 5/8". I trimmed the weight to 11/16th" of thickness. I know this makes the couter weight heavier than specified. I plan to adjust the mass of the couterweright to its final weight later in the build by either filing off more of the material, or simply drilling holes 1/2" holes in the piece to remove enough material to once the elevator is ready to be balanced. To trim the weight I cut four releif lines using a hacksaw. Then used a wood chisel and the hacksaw to cut down to the relief lines. Finally I used a file to smooth out the cut area and get the weight down to its final height.
