Brief Description:  Horizontal Stabilizer Riveting (Final)

while inspecting my work on the horizontal stabilizer center section I found one rivet that was below acceptable standards. Thus I spent over an hour removing the rivet and replacing it with a correctly driven rivet. Prior to working on the piece I removed a few AN470 rivets from a practice progect to make sure my technique was correct removing the machine head. Using a transfer punch I marked the rivets machine head, then used my pneumatic drill to drill out the head. After its successful removal, I them used a ground down pair of pliers to attempt to pull the rivet shaft out. that didn't work too well and scratched up some of the primer. So I swithed to a 3/32" punch and a dead blow hammer to tap out the shaft of the rivet. My work and caution was rewarded with discovering that the shop head on the rivet left much to be desired. I then installed a new rivet which had a much better shop head.
