Today I went back to working on finishing the horizontal stabilizer reinforcement bars. As per the instructions the horizontal stab reinforcement bars need to be sanded down to a fine finish using 400 grit sand paper. Also, the edges of the bars need to be radiused to a 3/32" radius.
To accomplish the edge radius, I first used my 1.5" belt sander with 120 grit belt to lightly break the edges of the of the reinforcement bars. Then I used four types of sandpaper to round out and smooth the edges, while also removing the milling marks and face of the aluminum bars.
- The four grades of sandpaper used were: -- Emory cloth -- 3M Medium sanding block -- 3M 220 Grit sanding block -- 400 Grit sand paper to bring surface to a jeweled finish
When completed the reinforcement bars looked nice and had a satin like appearance with radiused edges all along their perfiery.
