Today I attempted to prime the parts of the practice kit. To accomplish this I manually scuffed all the parts with a red scotchbrite pad. I then washed all the parts with Dawn dishsoap in our launrdry room shop sink. After washing, I then wiped down the washed parts with Acetone.
After drying I placed the parts in a box to contain the excess spray. I then sprayed NAPA 7220 on the parts as a test of Primer application. I then placed the parts in the garage to allow them to dry before inspecting the parts for coverage and the robustness of the primer on the material.
Lessons learned: -Wait until warmer or use heat gun to speed up primer drying - Wipe down parts with Acetone in a well ventilated area - Mark the parts after the completion of their cleaning - Place the parts in a position where you can prime all the corners, flanges, and edges.
- Don't know if NAPA 7220 may be the answer. It went on well, but came off with moderate metal on metal scraping. As such I decided to change to a Zinc Phosphate primer from West Marine.
