The trial fit of the hatch hinge went quite well – I'm happy. It took a couple of tries to get the stationary portion of the hinge to match the inside / underside portion of the nose cone, but I was able to get a decent fit despite my head being too large to fit in the hatch. Note the plywood positioning guide used to ensure the correct distance and offset from the opening – these worked great. The stationary hinges were glued with 5-minute epoxy – layups will follow to make things permanent. The other end of the “C's” were hot glued to the hatch in situ. I had to work up through the RG gear opening to the inside of the hatch. I still need to apply a carbon veneer crate and permanent attachment to the hatch, but I'm really happy with the mechanism. Oh, still need to find a latch mechanism too.
