My second cut out went better, but I was still not pleased. To make the cut-out easier made a template of aluminum flashing. I basically took a sheet with the desired opening and drilled it to the fairing while in place. After, I glassed in the new cut out.
I also closed up the elevator fairings. I went off script from Van's (balsa or foam) and used a piece of scrap aluminum which had a bow in it conforming to the elevator front face.
