Brief Description:  Prime Right Spar Doubler Parts

Prime Right Spar Doubler Parts

Following established pracatice, disassembled the doubler, de-burred, scoured, vacuumed, washed, and finally primed the parts for the doubler and the mating surfaces on the spar. The only change to prior practice is that, as recommended by Clayton, I used zinc Chromate primer from Aircraft Spruce instead of the primer recommended by Zenair. Note that Zenair had used zinc chromate primer on the spar that they supplied with the kit.

I need to get some better paint brushes for the priming. I used a very small "acid" brush, and the result was a pretty uneven coating. One other comment is that the primer requires acetone as thinner, which is pretty obnoxious stuff. Ventilation is a problem in the winter. On that score, I prefer Zenair's preferred water-base primer.
