Brief Description:  Install balance arm & piano hinge on right aileron

Install balance arm & piano hinge on right aileron

1) Placed the 3 control arm mounting bolts through an AN970 washer, and then through the inboard balance arm rib. Then used a piece of 1" masking tape to hold the bolts in place.
2) To facilitate handling the rib, used a 3/32" cleco through a small hole in the rib as a handle. Inserted the rib into the aileron. After I got the rib in place, I removed the cleco.
3) Inserted the balance arm through the hole in the front of the aileron. Maneuvered the rib and balance arm so that the 3 bolts passed through the holes in the balance arm
4) Maneuvered the outboard balance arm rib inside the aileron so that the bolts passed through the holes in the rib.
5) Placed another AN970 washer on the bolt, and then threaded on the AN364-1024A lock nut. Torqued nuts to ~30 in-lb. I really need to replace the AN970's with AN960L light washers at each end. I regret closing up the aileron with inadequate threads showing. I may open it up again to remove washers or to put in longer bolts.
6) Maneuvered the rib-balance-arm assembly to line up with the holes in the skin, cleco in place.
7) Clecoed the outboard aileron cap-rib in place.
8) Clecoed the aileron control horn to the inboard-most rib and my new, inside doubler angle.
9) Clecoed the inboard most rib to the aileron.
10) Riveted the ribs in place.
11) Clecoed the front flange to the top skin.
12) Clecoed the half of the piano hinge and the reinforcing angle to the top skin. Photos 1, 2, and 3 show the piano hinge half clecoed in place.
13) Clecoed the reinforcing angle to the front of the aileron.
