Brief Description: Disassemble left aileron to install balance, Hinge
1. On the top of the left aileron, drill off the heads of the rivets holding the skin on the top side to ribs and the flange bent onto the aileron front skin, and to the ribs. I used a 1/8" bit in the air drill as in Fig. 1.
2. Drive the rivet stems loose from the flange and ribs using a 3/32" pin punch and a hammer. See FIg. 2. The rivets through 3 layers of metal did not want to release from the bottom layer w/o bending the sheet metal. It was necessary to suppor the bottom layer with a piece of wood to keep it from just bending down from the impact. For reference, I calculated the angle between the sides of the aileron ribs as 16.7°.
