4. I made a BLIND EDGE MEASURE TOOL as shown in Fig. 1. The design was based on my recollection of a similar tool by some other builder. It consists of two strips of thin aluminum scrap. The bottom one has a small flange bent~1.5-mm from the end. The top strip is riveted so that one end is approximately positioned over the flange. The strips are riveted together in this position. Then a hole is drilled through the strips so that when the flange is against an edge, the hole is at the 10-mm edge distance. To use the tool, place the skin between the two strips. Then adjust the tool so that the flange engages the edge of the spar. Then mark the hole a the correct edge distance.

5. Positioned the bottom rear skin so that the rear edge was even with the rear spar flange.

6. Adjusted the skin along the wing to match as nearly as possible the rib rivet line marks drawn earlier. Then checked to make sure that all rib holes met the edge specs.

7. Used the blind edge measure tool to mark the rivet line for the front spar along side each rib. Then used a straight edge to draw the line between the marks. The line between ribs 7 & 8 was extrapolated across the spar extension.

8. Used a rivet fan to mark evenly spaced holes on the line, centered between the prepunched holes. At each rib, mark a hole at the minimum edge distance so that the end of each rib can still be tied into the spar. See Figs. 2 & 3.
