1. I placed the stiffeners made on 2/1/08 onto the ribs. As I feared, the 30° corners I cut off both flanges of the stiffeners did not leave adequate edge distance with the predrilled pilot holes on the wing ribs. So, I decided to remake the stiffeners.
2. First I cut the original 133-mm stiffeners down to 218-mm and the 218-mm stiffeners down to 186-mm. That solved the edge distance problem for them.
3. As a 1st venture into scratch building, I decided to make up some new L-angle to replace the 233-mm stiffeners.
4. With the Olfa P-800 knife, cut 5 36-mm wide strips from a piece of 3'x4'x0.025" 6061-T6 that I purchased from Air Parts in 2/07.
- Measured a 36-mm cutline on a 4' side of the 6061.
- Set the 6061 so that the cut line was ~1-mm off the end of the work table.
- Clamped a 4' straight edge on the cut line with C-clamps.
- Scored the cut line with the Olfa knife ~8 times.
- Bent and broke off the strip using a 1x2x4'. Sometimes I needed to score the cut line a bit more in the middle of the sheet.
- The cut edges were a bit rough, but 3 or 4 passes on the ScotchBrite wheel gave a satisfactory edge.
