Brief Description: Drill & cleco bellcrank supports, make rib stiffen
|
|
1. For rib 7 of right wing:
- Remove the bell crank support channel.
- Draw a line perpendicular to the support center line at a point 70-mm from the bottom flange.
- Draw a line through the center of the 3/16" hole in the bottom right support, perpendicular to the support flange.
- Position the support on the support centerline and on the 70-mm perpendicular line, and clamp. See Fig. 1.
- Drill 3/32" & cleco the bellcrank support to the rib.
- Remove the bellcrank support, replace the bellcrank support channel, and cleco at corners.
- Back drill the support channel through the 3 holes drilled for the bellcrank support.
- Assemble the bellcrank support by bolting the two sides together through the bushing 6W10-3 which is placed in a hole drilled through a block cut16.5-mm thick. Tighten the assembly so that the flanges are flat on the table.
- Cleco the support assembly to the rib and support channel.
- Drill 3/32" & cleco the top of the bellcrank support.
- Back-drill 3/32" and cleco the remaining pilot holes for the support channel.
- Drill 1/8" & cleco all holes in the assembly.
- Drill #40 & cleco all holes in the assembly. See Fig. 2.
2. Repeat the above steps for Left Rib 7.
3. Make up 8 ea. of stiffeners from L-angle of length 186, 218, & 233-mm. I chose to cut the corners of the stiffeners off at 30°.
4. Deburr all stiffeners. The ScotchBrite wheel in the drill press worked really well for deburring rough ends left by the snips when cutting the L-angle pieces. It took about 3 hours to produce the 24 pieces, including the steps of planning the sequence of cuts from the 1220-mm lenghts to minimize wastage, measuring, cutting, and deburring.
5. With hindsight, I should not have cut the 30° angle on side of the stiffener that is riveted to the rib.
