Brief Description: Assemble center ribs of elevator
I assembled the two center ribs of the elevator to the center channel. I had only two problems.
1. I didn't have enough clearance to drill the holes for the l-angles and the elevator center channel with the assembly clecoed together. (I've got a close clearance drill attachment ordered, but not yet received.) So, I clamped the L-angle to the center channel, unclecoed the ribs, and drilled. On one of the holes, the parts moved a bit. I drilled the hole 1st w/ No. 30, and then with a No. 20 for the A5 rivets. By careful clamping and drilling, I was able to reclaim the proper alignment with the No. 20 holes.
Lesson learned: clamp really well. Use the close quarter drill attachment when it arrives.
2. Drilling the #20 holes with my hand drill, it was difficult to hold the drill really still, with the result that the hole was like a rounded triangle. I drilled some of the holes on the drill press and got perfect circles. I need to practice drilling the No. 20 holes with the hand drill.
