Brief Description:  Drill new angles for NR#2

Drill new angles for NR#2

1. The position on the spar of the angle, ZU-1-3, that I prepared for NR#2 was too far inboard, which would put the holes in the other angle, ZU-1-4, too close to the bend. I.e., per the instructions, I put the holes on the center of the flange, but that moved the angle too far inboard, given the location of the bolt holes in the spar. That would have made it difficult to tighten the nuts on the bolts holding ZU-1-4 to the spar. So, I decided to drill another angle, moving the holes 3-mm closer to the edge of the flange. I did that, taking great care to make sure that the angle was normal to the top of the spar.

2. Then, using a piece of .040 angle as a dummy for the rib, I positioned the other angle, ZU-1-4 and drilled the holes for the bolts. Those parts will be complete once I’ve drilled 3/32” pilot holes into ZU-1-3 so that I can mate the angles with NR#2. See Figs. 1 & 2.

3. I will use the previously drilled ZU-1-3 for NR#1. The latest (2/12/10) dwgs include the ZU-1-3 angle on NR#1, riveted to the wing root doubler. The part was not shown on the dwgs that I had been using (11/24/09). The position of the drilled holes on the flange will not matter with NR#1 because there are no preexisting holes on the doubler.
