Brief Description: Upper Firewall and Filler Box Riveting
Final assembly and riveting of the fuel filler box and upper firewall and bow. I left the filler unattached to the firewall at this time, because I want to do some research on what kind of sealant to use inside the box and make sure there are no "gotchas" about riveting and sealing the filler box.
I also attached the Camloc fastener recepticles that will hold the cowl to the firewall using smaller 3/32" SSC-34 rivets. The plans call for SSC-32 rivets, but the Camloc recepticles are a little thicker than the Southco units in the plans, and the -32 rivets left inadequate grip length with the Camlocs.
To fit the Camloc fasteners I had to drill large 5/16" holes. These were pretty messy on the stainless steel, and required a lot of cleanup with a Dremel grinding stone to get rid of all the burrs and shavings out of the holes. The holes are not perfectly round, but the fasteners can seat freely which is what matters. The aluminum bow will cover them and hide the imperfections.
