Brief Description:  VS Layout & Drilling

I got the Vertical Stabilizer frame laid out and drilled. I had been at this stage before, but before drilling realized one of my ribs (T10-02) was a hair too short, and rather than trying to make it work I made a replacement. Since I was out of that type of channel stock I had to wait for parts to arrive (while waiting I finished my elevator assembly).

The layout is probably the toughest part here. Everything has to be flat and square. Since only one side is up you have to try to get low enough to judge the other side (against the flat table) to make sure everything is centering correctly. The operation is basically clamp everything down, measure, adjust, re-measure, re-adjust...etc...etc. I was able to get it pretty close to ideal finally.

The drilling was pretty easy, since everything was already aligned and clamped down. I had to make generous use of the 12" 3/32 bit I bought to clear everything.
