The gear leg guides for the brake cables come flat, and need to be bent to wrap around the axle. It seemed to me the easiest way to do this would be to use a rubber mallet and form them around the axles.
However, I didn't want to ding up the axles, so I used a scrap piece of 1" steel rod I had, drilled a bolt hole in it, bolted the guide to it in the proper orientation, and then put it in the vise and whacked it into shape. I made sure to under-bend the guides a little, since the rod I used is 1" and the axle mount is 1 1/4". It worked out very well. The only annoying part is the powder coating craked and flaked on the guides, so I'll have to re-paint them before final assembly.
