In setting up my motor mount, the bottom sits flush on the firewall, but in order to sit level the top needed to come forward from the firewall, which is pretty normal. But once I pilot drilled the holes, I saw on the top that the edge distance for those fat 1/4" bolts was pretty close.
I contacted the factory, and they said it looks like no problem, but if I wanted a "warm and fuzzy" about it, I could add an additional bolt on each upper mount point (so there would be three bolts instead of two). That's what I did, but it took some care to provide enough material webbing between each countersunk bolt head.
There was really only only place the third bolt could go, between the other two and offset forward. I didn't want to offset to clode to the edge and compromise strength in that area either. In the end the third holes came out very well, and I guess I'll have the strongest Sonex motor mount around!
