Brief Description: Main Gear Install
|
|
As I have the wider landing gear as standard, I guess, it is not much known about the following problem. Inserting the legs into the sleaves should be very straight forward exercise, not quite. I experienced that the plane was not level across the cockpit and nor the spar box. Therefore I started to measure everything, the legs, the wheel weldment, the sleave insert... and everything was matching on the millimetre. So why was the plane limping to one side? Finally I worked out a method to measure the sleave angle in the spar box, and yes the angles were not exact the same hence one lag was to short. I manufactured an insert for the leg which extended the leg on the right for 23mm, which I trimmed down to 12mm and secured with a pin. This way both legs were sitting in the sleave all the way and the cockpit and spar box were both level. This task involved a lot of bone work with lifting the fuse, leg in, leg out, adjust, measure and again this was only possible with a strong helping hand. Considering this was only the prep work for the alignment!
