Brief Description:  Started priming the HS parts for corrosion protect

Tonight I worked on cleaning and priming some of the parts for corrosion protection. When edge finishing I had used Scotchbrite pads to slightly etch the surface. Tonight I used a rag and M.E.K. (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) to clean any oils, fingerprints, etc from the surface. MEK is a carcinogen so I use a respirator, eye protection, and solvent gloves when using it. Nasty stuff but it cleans excellent and evaporates quickly.

I am using a self etching primer from NAPA, #7220. Many people on Vansairforce.com recommend it and it seems to be pretty tough. My neighbor Russ who has been painting airplanes for a living for several years has some other rattle can stuff he said I should try. I bought five cans of the NAPA stuff and may switch when it is gone. I am lucky to have so many guys with tons of airplane experience within 2000 feet of my house.

Colten helped me a little bit between working on his own airplane project...a Lockheed P-38 Lightning. He got this model kit for Christmas and started it last winter and decided to finish it before school starts. He is doing a nice job as he works on my old workbench in the shop. Diane and Tanner were gone this week so we had some good bonding time working together doing guy stuff. Justine stopped in occasionally between visits to her friends for money or a ride. Gotta love teenage girls. For all of you slime ball internet surfing child molesters out there, all of my kids have had hunter safety training and have been instructed to cap any intruder trying to enter our home. If you want to hear 15 rounds from a 10mm Glock up close, stop by. Sorry mom, you never know who is reading this stuff.
