Worked out the engine issue. The throttle idle was set too low so it would run with choke - and killing the choke starved the engine, but opening the throttle flooded it. Once the engine was warm, I stopped it - then killed the choke and opeing the throttle 1/2" - then it started and ran well.
Robert and I then taxied it over to the runway and up and back the length of the main taxiway. Temps all appear OK.
