Brief Description:  Engineer's inspection & engine start-up

More milestones today ...

Mike Matthews did the final engineer's inspection and gave the plane a 100% score - not a single bolt or connection needed correction. Once I tidy up the paperwork I'll get it off to RAAus so they can issue the airworthiness certificate.

Spent the afternoon preparing for the first engine start-up. Just to be safe I pulled off the ram air ducts and removed a plug from each cylinder so we could turn the engine over easily. Checked the oil level then spun the prop (and engine) by hand to make sure there were was no air in the oil lines. Then used the engine starter to spin the engine faster so we could read the oil pressure. The Dynon display showed the oil pressure as too high (above 80PSI) so just to be safe we used a remote sensor (Peter T's) to read the pressure while the starter cranked. This showed a more reasonalbe reading of 41PSI so we ignored the Dynon reading.

We then added 20lts of Mogas 98Ron to the left tank and tried to pump up the carbi ... When we pulled off the carbi bowl it was dry. Some careful study showed that one of the floats was stuck up and blocking the valve. Some surgery got the float clear so the bowl filled.

Next crank and the engine fired up and idled well - but it would only run with full choke adding fuel - so we still have a fuel problem with the carbi float and bowl. Will work on that later - but for now the engine started and ran properly - even if only at idle...
