Brief Description:  First fit of the oil cooler and ducting.

Another fiddly job. Borrowed son Robert to help with this one. Manual says to fit the duct to the cowl, then attach the oil cooler to the duct, then attach the oil cooler to the firewall. Too much risk in that technique.

We assembled the oil cooler and duct, then Robert held the angle mount flat against the firewall, while I twisted the whole assembly so it was fully flush with the inside of the cowl. Once we we had the angle mount happy against the firewall, and the duct sitting without pressure against the cowl, we drilled and clecoed the duct to the cowl. We then made sure there was no load on the cowl, then marked the location of the angle mount on the firewall.

We then pulled the pins from the hinges and dismantled everything - riveted the angle to the firewall (again, using an alloy backing plate and some silicon gasket sealer) - put the pins back and re-assembled everything. It all fits nicely with no load or twisting action on the cowl.

I can now take my time and enlarge the cowl hole to the size of the duct, then flock the duct to the cowl and fill and smooth the cleco holes.
