Brief Description:  Prime Stiffeners and Inside Rudder Skin

Dreading this step, priming/sealing interior parts. All went well. I am using a relatively new paint system: Stewart Systems Waterborne Paint. This allows the use of distilled water to thin the paint and aid in cleanup.

Also using an Apollo paint gun that I purchased two years ago at Oshkosh. This is a High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) paint gun that delivers much more pain to the surface and has almost no over spray. Operates at 25 psi, considerably less than the average paint gun.

Another advantage is that I do not have to use a forced fresh air mask system. All I need is a face mask with filters.

Used Stewart Systems EkoClean and EkoEtch to prepare the surfaces of the LH Rudder stiffeners and the rudder skin. Painted all prepared parts. So far, so good. Will continue prepping surfaces and painting the other empennage parts that are otherwise ready for assembly.

I am using a Sears paint gun I’ve had for decades for washing down parts after using the above preparation products.
