Brief Description: Fuselage - MOD - Rudder cable fairing on aft fusel
As part of the modification/improvement I want to do to fuselage, today, I did a small one for motivation purpose ! Using the preformed rudder cable fairings purchased from Avery a while ago and refering to a picture from a RV-7 builder, I worked to adapt these fairing to my RV-8 aft fuselage.
Realizing I have one shot at cutting/drilling these aluminum parts, I decided to make a cardboard template first, modify the cardboard template, test fit it then replicate it on the parts. It made me realize that I couldn't not totally replicate what I was seeing on the RV-7 picture, the RV-8 fuselage being different. On the bottom of the fairing, I can't drill more than two holes, as holes are commong with the lower longeron. I can't drill a hole in front of the fairing, as the rudder cable would rub on the rivet head, and would get damaged over time.
Overall, it was a fun little project to do, one that didn't require any special skills or tools I do not have !
