Brief Description: Fuselage - Tailwheel weldment fitting part 2
Today I had a special surprise visit at the shop ! My Norwegian friend Nils Harald Hansen was in Montreal with his daughter Laurianna. For her 20th birthday, Dad Nils is taking Laurianna to various destination around North America she always wanted to see, and Montreal was on her list ! Nils is an engineer at Airbus in Toulouse France. We became friends when I was an active member of Midi Pyrénées Voltige aerobatic flying club in Toulouse. Nils is 5 times Norwegian aerobatic champion and an airshow performer.
Much like previous day, I could actually start working on the RV-8 later in the evening. Objective was to finalize fitting the WD-409 tail spring mount. Unsatisfied with the accuracy of pencil alignments marks I made the previous evening on Bulkhead F811, I redid those a number of times. I also played around many minutes trying to find a way to clamp properly the WD-409 tail spring mount. I made 0,040" shims to fill the gap between the bulkhead and the tail spring mount. Eventually, I drilled the two holes through the stab bars, bulkhead F811 and tail spring mount. Everything fell dead center !
