Brief Description: Tools - Fabricating fuselage assy jig & transport
At the stage I am at with my fuselage assembly, I need a large surface to join all the sub-assembly together. I had planned to use old sturdy office desk that were in the garage. They eventually were taken away by my uncle. Now, I am stuck without what I consider a good and strong assembly table for my RV-8 Fuselage. I now have to build one.
Since I am working in a rented space, I will eventually need to move my fuselage somewhere else. I will need a transport dolly. Looking at the fuselage jig used by the early RV-8 builders, I decided to build a similar jig, and use it as a transport dolly by putting wheels to it. I will be making my assembly jig in two section of 8 ft long, such that it can easily be taken apart.
I started assembling the first table section from 15h30 until 20h00.
