Brief Description:  Fuselage - Auxiliary Longeron bending

On this mid afternoon work session, I continued longeron bending with the auxiliary longeron F844 LH and RH.

This longeron requires a bend of 5/32" in his center. Van's instruction specify to make a slight bend every two inches from the center to obtain this curve in the longeron. Therefore, I made pencil tick marks along the longeron. I clamped the longeron in my vise, and made moderate hammer "wacks" at the tick line. I was surprised to find out how little hammering is required to bend this longeron to shape. I had reached or exceeded the 5/32". It was equally easy to remove the bend in the other plane, with a slight bend to make it flat again.

Following this, I started working on the long anticipated Upper Longerons F887. I took them out of their shipping tube, un packed them and lay them on the floor. I clamped both longerons on an adjacent table, then started laying mesurements and marks for bending later. Before bending these "expensive" and no "second chance" longeron, I want to make a check jig.

I worked from 15h30 until 18h45 on this.
