Brief Description:  Pick up Longeron F887 at truck depot

When I first ordered the fuselage kit, Van's did not notify me that the 15 feet long longeron F887 were not part of the fuselage kit bill of material, but part of the wing kit. Since most builders build the wings before the fuselage, they get these long fuselage longeron delivered with the wing spars. Because I am doing the fuselage first, I ended up having to order these longerons separately.

The issue here is certainly not the cost of the longeron. All together both LH & RH Longeron cost $57 USD from Van's. The issue is because it is an oversize package in lenght, the shipping cost from Oregon to Montreal was an orendous $350 USD (or $480 CAD with the now low exchange rate).

In order to save a bit on the shipping, and based on my previous experience with clearing customs with my fuselage kit, I went to Canadian Customs to pay the import fees, the return to truck depot to pick up my parts, well package in a long plumbing ABS tube, tie it to the top of my car and take it home.

Could have save the shipping expense by finding locally the same aluminum angles, 15 feet long ? Likely ! My concern was that I want to make sure I have the proper parts and material spec for these two very important longeron. I want to make my first flight with my mind clear, knowing I have the proper longeron on my fuselage, not just some harware store aluminum angles I don't know the source....
