Finally after waiting two days day dreaming at work, I could actually start working on my RV-8 fuselage....First order of the day: Post delivery kit inventory !
Dad volonteered to help with this task. We were a natural team to do this. Having both worked in the family car dealership part department during our life, part inventory is no secret for us. Mom came to help too, but she was given the unglorious task to fold all that mountain of wrapping paper we made as we unpackaged parts to check their status.
Ultimately, we found a few parts and hardware kit missing from the kit. These were promptly re-ordered from Van's, and delivered free of charge a few days later.
Parts were classified first by delivery bundle into smaller plastic boxes, and then took home. The big parts I didn't expect to work on much later in the project. The wood shipping crate was eventually moved to a storage place I rent near home.
Throughout my career as an aerospace manufacturing engineer I have handled aircraft parts. These were not my parts, and it felt very impersonal. While doing parts inventory, at one time I pause to think for a moment, and my Dad asked "What's going on?". I replied "I just realized these aircraft parts are mine, unlike before in my life, and I will make my own airplane with those..." :-)
