Brief Description:  Project Introduction

I am a private pilot with a instrument rating and some time on my hands. I enjoy keeping my mind busy and I also enjoy building things. Being a pilot I have always wanted my own plane. I have experience building model airplanes from my time flying remote control competion areobatics.
Next the decision as to which kit plane to build. The Van's kit planes seem to be the best looking, supported, built and have very good performance. On top of that at a price that also seems attractive.
Van's has a complete line of kits that fill a few different types of flying. I would love to build the RV-10 as this is a very attractive four place plane. However a little too complex for the first build an also out of my price range. The two seat side-by-side seating is the way for me to go. Now it is a decision between the RV-7 and the RV-9. I will build this plane with a simple IFR panel so the more stable RV-9 is my choice. I really like the idea of aerobatics with the RV-7 but feel the more stable platform is the best route. Part of this is that I hope the wife will spend a lot of time in the plane with me. More stable, more better.
Now the choice between RV-9 tailwheel and RV-9A tricycle gear is easy. I like the tailwheel planes and in Florida it will be a sliding canopy vs. the tip-up canopy.
