Brief Description: Rudder trailing edge prepped for riveting
This morning I prepped the trailing edge for riveting by cleaning the proseal from the rivet holes and ensuring the dimples were sufficiently deep for the rivets. I also prepared the work table so the trailing edge rivets laid flat on the back plate. After a lot of thought about how to do the riveting, squeezing, back rivetting, the angles, a flat surface vs. tilted, etc. In the final analysis, the back rivetted method was selected and produced an excellent finished product.
In the afternoon Mike kelly stopped by and the rudder leading was rounded and sibsequently riveted.
The steps are simple: 1. Seam the straight edge with the seeeming tool. 2. Duct tape a 3/4 pipe to the leading edge then twist it around with vise grips or channel locks to make the foward edge roundish. 3. Pop rivet. My pneumatic pop rivet tooll is perfect for the job.
