Brief Description:  Landing/Taxi Lights

Five years ago I installed the Duckworks landing light mods into both the LH and RH leading edges. Today I installed the taxi light in the RH wing and began installation of the landing light in the LH wing. The installations are identical and the two lights are essentially the same. The only real difference between the landing light and taxi light will be the angle they are set to in relation to the chord line of the wing. The landing light will be set to an aim point further ahead of the aircraft (for landing) and the taxi light which is angled down to light the ground when the aircraft is in the three point altitude.

Laid out the attach points for the bracket on the reflector support for the RH landing light. Drilled cleco holes and then opened them up to #19 for #8 screws. Installed nut plates. I also drilled a 1 1/2" hole in the reflector support at the center of the lamp bracket. This hole will help with removing heat from the heat sink in the back of the lamps

I tried a few different installation sequences for getting the reflector support, lamp bracket and lamp in place in the wing. I found that I had to first fasten the reflector support in the wing, then bolt in the bracket and then bolt in the lamp light. I ended up using AN3 bolts to bolt the lamps to the brackets rather than the socket head cap screws that came with the brackets because it wasn't possible to get a tool on them to tighten them up inside the wing. The AN3s can be tightened with a 3/8 wrench from the front.

Soldere spliced wire extensions to the pig tails on the lamp. There are three other wires on the lamps that I'm not using for my application so those were cut short. Installed a 6 inch length of shrink tubing on the lengthened pigtail.

Drilled a 7/16" hole in the reflector support and installed a snap bushing. This will allow for pass through of the pig tail.

Installed the reflector support, lamp bracket and lamp in the wing. Installed the Duckworks lens.
