Brief Description:  Misc leading edge tasks

Drilled out and replaced one bad LH leading edge rib-to-spar rivet. I decided that the remaining four or so leading edge rib-to-spar rivets are acceptable and that drilling them out could do more harm than good. Squeezed the remaining leading edge skin-to-spar flange rivets. The leading edges are now 100 percent attached to the spar.

Next I crimped a connecter on the end of the long 18 gauge wire that came with the stall waring switch kit and plugged it onto the switch assembly. I then bolted the switch assembly in place on in the leading edge and adjusted it so that the micro switch could be heard to make contact when the stall vane is pushed upward.

The plans for the stall warning switch kit show the wire from the switch simply extending back to the snap bushing in the spar. That's about a 16 inch span and it didn't seem to me to be a good idea to leave it unsupported over that distance. Plus it would run right in front of the access hole for the stall switch meaning that it could be snagged when reaching inside for whatever reason. To improve upon this approach I decided to add an Adel clamp to the inboard leading edge rib so that the wire would be supported about midway between the switch and snap bushing. I didn't have any Adel clamps yet but I have some on order and they'll be here in a few days. They're installed with AN3 bolts and I had nutplates with the correct thread size for AN3 bolts so I installed one on the rib. When I get the clamp I can install it through the stall warning access hole.

With the leading edge installation complete I moved on the next step in the plans which is to install about half of the bolts and screws that hold the fuel tanks to the spar and leading edge. I did this for the LH wing and the fit was very good. There was some very minor pillowing in a few places where the tank bolts to the leading edge but nothing like what some other builders have had. Next I clecoed the LH top skins in place in prep for riveting. Finally I riveted the aileron brackets together.
