Brief Description:  Fuel level calibration

Moved the aircraft part way out of the hangar so that it could be fueled and leveled it laterally and longitudinally. Drained the fuel from the LH tank into a 5 gallon can. Transferred 2 of the gallons into a 2 gallon can. Initiated the fuel level calibration procedure in the Skyview for the LH tank and followed the prompts on the screen. Since the tanks hold 21 gallons each the Skyview calibration has you add two gallons at a time pressing a softkey marked “add” with each two-gallon fill. The system measures the voltage read from the fuel level sensor and records it in memory along with the corresponding number of gallons. For the first two 2 gallon fills I filled the LH tank with fuel I had previously drained from it. I then drained the fuel from the RH tank and used it for two more 2-gallon fills bringing the total to 8 gallons. After that I called for the fuel truck and asked them to fill the LH tank to the top in 2-gallon increments. After each increment I pressed the add button, and when the tank was full, I pressed the full button to complete the calibration process. After I pressed the add button at the 20 gallon point a message appeared on the screen telling me that the voltage was the same as it had been at the 18-gallon point. This is presumably because the fuel sender float which is located at the inboard end of the tank had topped out after 18 gallons and the additional fuel after that was outboard of the float due to the dihedral in the wings. The result is that the Skyview system will indicate 18+ gallons when more than 18 gallons are in the tank which isn’t a problem.

Next, I ran the calibration procedure for the RH tank. This time all of the 2-gallon increments were added by line service.

EDIT: I just noticed when looking at the photo below that the left and right fuel level indicators are backwards. I'll have to fix that next time I'm at the hangar.
