Brief Description:  Cowl Part 11

Began installation of the row of Skybolts along the LH side that will fasten the upper and lower cowls together.

Deburred and countersunk the Skybolt flanges for the LH side (Qty ten). Clamped them to the lower cowl to work out the spacing. Removed the flanges and trimmed 3/16" off of the short side. Trimmed the forward tab off of the forward most flange and bent it to a curve to match the contour of the front of the lower cowl.

Reinstalled the upper cowl and with the aid of my laser level I marked a line on the lower cowl corresponding to the line of rivets that will fasten the flanges to the cowl. I did this because the lower cowl droops a little when the top cowl is removed so if I laid out the rivet line with the top off, the rivet line, and possibly the Skybolt line, would not be level when the cowl halves are fastened together.

Repositioned the ten Skybolt flanges on the lower cowl and clamped them in place. I located them vertically to provide 3/16" edge distance on the flanges and 1/4" on the fiberglass

Determined the rivet spacing that I wanted to use (7/8 ") and used a rivet fan to lay them out. Drilled #40 holes through the cowl and flanges and installed clecos in the holes.

I found that I needed to bend the five forward most flanges inward a bit to get the upper cowl to fit properly on the lower
