Brief Description:  Canopy skirts part 11

Final trimmed the lower after curve of the LH skirt. This was basically 1/2" from the molded in trim line on the skirt.

Used poster board to make a template of the curve on the LH lower aft edge of the skirt. Reversed the template and used it to draw a line the RH skirt as a guide to trim the RH skirt. Took numerous measurements to verify the cut line. I ended up taking both skirts off and laying them back-to-back on the bench and used the LH skirt as a template to draw the cut line on the IML of the RH skirt. This line was close to the one I drew on the OML using the poster board template.

Final sanded the edges of the scarf joint at the aft end of the skirt halves. Clecoed the skirt haves back on the frame.

Cut four plies of 9oz crows foot fiberglass sized to cover the space at the aft end of the skirt. The width of the four plies was decreased in 1/2 increments to create a 1/4 inch step on each side. Stacked up the four plies on 2 mil plastic sheet and poured resin on them to make prepreg. Laid another layer of 2 mil plastic on top of the layup and used a roller to compact the plies and remove excess resin.

Removed the plastic and placed the layup over the canopy skirt splice. Formed the layup around the canopy track. Placed a layer of peel ply over the layup and clecoed the temporary aluminum splice strap back in place over the splice joint
