Brief Description:  IFD400 Mounting

Painted the gear tower Adel clamp supports with interior paint and baked the paint in the oven.

Did a trial fit of the Avidyne IFD440 navigator in the panel and fabricated support angles which will connect the forward end of the navigator to the aft mid cabin cross member. The navigator is fairly heavy so it needs to be supported by more than just the four holes connecting it to the support rails riveted to the panel. Temporarily clecoed the forward upper skin in place in order to position the instrument panel at the correct angle so that the support angles could be cut to the correct length. Bolted the support angles to the navigator mounting tray and clamped the lower aft end to the cabin cross member.

Trial fit the IFD400 in place and found that there was a gap between its bezel and the panel. Ended up removing the navigator and elongating the holes in the aft support rails (the ones riveted to the panel) to improve the fit of the navigator. I also fabricated two doubler plates to rivet to the support rails. The doublers have #6 holes matching the hole pattern in the IFD440 and will provide positive positioning of the navigator since the holes in the support angles were elongated.
