Brief Description:  Piston & Cylinder Assembly

Cylinders came from vendor with pistons inside. It is importsnt to keep the pistons and cylinders matched.

Piston rings need to be removed from each piston and slid inside the the matching cylinder so that the gap between the ends of the ring can be measured with a feeler gauge. Since these are new parts they all measured within the tollerance per the manual. I re-installed the rings using a ring compressor which I rented from the auto parts store.

Positioning the the cylinder assembly in place and over the head studs and installing the piston pin must first be done without cylinder shims in order to get a maeasurment of how much shiming are going to be needed to achieve the desired compression ratio. I chose to use the 8.0:1 ratio and to use aviation gasoline. I used nthe tail end of my calipers to make the measurement and used the chart on page 21 to determine the proper amount of shims.

Disasssemble the the cylinder and piston. Install the proper amount of cylinder shims. Apply sealant to the shims and the base pf the cylinder. Reinstall they cylinder and the piston as per the manual and making sure to secure the piston piin witha snap ring. Seat the cylinder in place by tappind with a rubber mallet. Remove excessive sealant.

The above is repested for each cylinder,

The manual and video instructions were excellent for this task.
