Brief Description:  Wing Main Spar

I purchased the main spars already built. However Sonex left some work for the builder to do. I assume so that the builder could count some work on this main component in calculating the 51% rule.
There was 8 bolts, washers and nuts on each Spar to be installed. Also there were 6 rivets on each spar to be driven.

It would have been nice if Sonex would have provided the rivets so that the builder did not have to by a quarter pound of each size just to complete this task.

I was able to borrow the Aircraft Rivet Gun and Bucking Bar from a fellow EAA member to complete this task. Otherwise this would have been an expensive endeavor.

Also I am glad I had Bob here to help with this rivet driving.

So that I could understand how the Spars connected, I dry fitted the two spars together. There are three threaded alignment holes strategically place in each Spar so that when the two left and right Spars would be properly aligned. Quarter inch bolts were used in these hole to align the spars for further assembly processes. These are not permanent fastener. When the Spars are installed in the Spar Tunnel of the airplane these holes do not get fasteners.
