Modified F22-01R drilling new 1/2" rudder cable hole outboard of the exisiting hole 23/32" per plans. Also modified the pulley assembly for this location. Clecoed VS and rudder to fuselage so I could determine for sure where the holes and pulley assemblies should be in the F16-04 former.
I used string tied to the rudder horn and pulled tight over the skin slot keeping the string centered in the slot. I then measured the vertical location of the string at the rear former on the outside of the skin from the bottom of the fuselage. I then transfered this measurement to the inside of the former to locate the hole. I used the plans measurement to determine the horizontal locations. Once I drilled the 1/2" holes I positioned the pulley assemblies over the holes and rotated the assemblies 2 degrees inwards per plans.
This procedure insured the rudder cables would be located vertically in the center of the skin slots. I next need to thread the cables through the fuselage and connect them to the rudder horn. I can then determine if the skin slots need to be lengthened. Once that is done I can mount the rudder cable exit fairings, probably using #4 nutplates.
