Brief Description:  Cut and drilled the Ailerons

Cut and drilled the Ailerons: Cut the ailerons to length and cut the openings for the counter balance weights and actuator arm using a dremell tool with a right angle attachment. I use the thin cutoff wheels which make a nice thin cut but the wheels often shatter and send small pieces in all directions so be SURE and wear goggles or safety glasses.

Also drilled all the rib locations in the skins using drilling guides I had previously made from 1/8" by 1" aluminum I purchased at Menards, have not yet drilled the actual ribs. Updrilled and riveted the actuator brackets to the ribs. Was not enough clearance for my rivet gun so I bent the rib flanges out and then back once riveted. I also noticed the 1/8" bracket was extending above & below the rib so I ground down the edges of the brackets so they did not extend beyond the ribs otherwise the edge of the bracket would probably crease and possibly eventually tear the aluminum skin.

Tomorrow will file the cut edges smooth and match drill the ribs to the skins. Will probably put the ailerons in my press and drill the hinges to the skins before I rivet the ribs into place. I'll insert several ribs into the skins before drilling in the press to make sure the leading edge thickness is correct.

Tomorrow I should also get back my machined lead weights for the counter balance that a firend of mine is working on. He has already cur the weights to size and will now match drill them to the arms 3/16" holes for the AN3 bolts.
