Brief Description:  Modified cross tie

After Sonex sent me two new replacement cross ties, neither fitting properly, they decided not to make any more changes to the part until they could see what the problem was first hand. They are in the process of assembling a quick build OneX and when they get to this part they will see what the issues are.

In summary; the original part had a top flange that was bent crooked, one end of the flange was about 1/8" shorted than the other. The replacement part had straight bends but the top and bottom flanges were unequal in width. The width is not critical but the prepunched holes in the flange are and if the flanes are not bent with the correct width, the holes will not line up with the rear spar prepunched holes or the bottom skin holes. The second replacement part was better, top flange looked OK but bottom flange was too narrow, the flange actually protruded below the bottom skin surface and the holes obviously didn't line up.

The part fitment is critical, the top flange holes must line up with the rear spar holes and they must allow the web of the part to lay flat against the vertical channel so the AN3 bolts will fit properly. The height of the top flange is also critical, it must align with the trailing #1 ribs that are riveted to the side skin. The bottom flange prepunched holes must line up with the bottom skin prepunched holes and the surface of the bottom flange must allow the skin to fit flush against it and not bulge out or depress in.

Anyway, since Sonex gave up I modified the part myself. I removed the bottom flange and replaced it with a 3/4" 1/16" piece of angle. I match drilled the angle in place to insure the holes lined up and the flange was level with the bottom skin surface. The top flange already lined up with the rear spar holes and did sit flush with the vertical channel but the flange was about 1/16" too low so the rear spar did not align with the #1 rib so I made a 1/16" shim and match drilled it to the top flange.
