The massive change to the upper cowling is just beginning. The current challenge, to build a new top end to cover the new air filter box while contouring it to slowing transition into the spinner. This is especially a challenge because the new engine is not hung yet. It means doing all this in separate stages. Fun. Today was wrapping the air box in cardboard and duct tape, then several scraps of UNI and BID to form a basic shape that will allow X-30 Foam to be poured onto. This foam will then be shaped to the new exterior dimensions and glassed. Later the inside of the cowl and all the foam will then be removed to leave just the new exterior shape. Several steps and curing cycles from now, it should look great. Don't judge it yet! :(
