Brief Description: Pitch trim wheel construction 1
The gear sprocket and chain came today and I'm really pleased with the quality. Everything fit onto the control wheel better than expected though tolerances were very tight. I attached the 1/16 cable to the chain ends and found more than enough travel on the gear for trim throws. I took the hardpoint block of wood, installed the an4-15A bolt (AN4-12A would have been better) and floxed it into position with 15 minute epoxy. I then made a smooth edge with ezpoxy flox and glassed 1 Bid over the top. By morning I'll be ready to hook her up to the canard for testing. I decided that it would be best to cut out 12 semi-circles around the trim wheel for grip but until I get the right tool, it will have to wait... At this point I am excited about this setup, however I still have 1 concern: The trim wheel may still need to be somewhat stiff to counteract the springs' pull. I REALLY hoping that it will be an improvement over Rutan's Design....tomorrow we'll find out.
