Just for those that are interested. I emailed Vans about the R-710 problem and they did say much other than what you see in image 2 below. Words of warning for future RV8 builders on this item, if you cut as per the plans you will have insufficient edge distance on the bottom of R710 and end up with some "spare parts". Cut only to the outside of the cutting guide/tooling hole and then fit the part and drill through the holes.
Only after doing this come back to the part and you will have the edge of the tooling/guide hole touching just the edge. Create a very smooth notch where the hole was taking massive amounts of care to leave no nicks marks or edges and then clean up with files and sandpaper. I finished up with 400 grit and there are no perceptable tool marks so there hopefully no immediate stress risers.
As an aside looking at the number of people on the net who have had this problem they really should either tweak the plans or location of the hole or put a warning in the written instructions. Whinge over as other than this so far it is a really really good kit.
