Brief Description:  Floor finished - building the workbench

Today was fun. Went into the shop before work for a little while, then a quick break during the day, followed up by two hours tonight with Chris Porter, Vicky, and her son.

We built a workbench along the length of the wall. Sixteen feet long (a 4x8 sheet of ply ripped in half) with a shelf for storage below it. This will be a support bench - it's pretty close to level but not obsessively so - it's only accurate to 1/10 of one degree. We'll need to do a little better for buidling the wings. But, we'll use this bench for the nitty grit of daily work.

Oh yeah, we also applied a polyurothane finish to the top of the bench. Tomorrow it will get sanded and then another coat will be applied. We'll see how many coats it takes.

Also, since the last update on the floor, we added a second layer of epoxy paint and let it dry. The floor looks terrific and I'm very pleased with the Rustoleum 2-Part Epoxy Paint. We were scraping tools and wood across it today and it didn't mark the floor one bit. Also, the lighter color and the gloss finish have lightened the mood of the shop considerably.

Finally, got quite a bit of shelving added to the shop. You can never have too much storage. There are lots of tools, supplies, and airplane parts to keep organized!

In addition to the second coat of finsih on the bench, tomorrow we'll be moving tools around the shop and getting set up.

Finally, I've been compressor shopping and found the compressor I want. The problem is that it requires 220V. I have 220 in the shop (actually 250) but I still need to get an electrician in to run the wiring. Initial estimate was more than the compressor. Must find a better vendor.

Once last thing. Bill Scheunemann was busting my chops about whether this was a contract build and whether I'm doing any of the work... he hasn't seen me in any photo. So I've included one of me doing some work, too! Here's the proof Bill.
