Brief Description: Begin Horizontal Stabilizor Rear Spar
Started work on the plane...finally! It was a scary feeling making that first cut; I want everything to go perfectly so I was really hesitant about that first step. After that things went quickly and smoothly. I rounded the ends of the HS rear spar doublers using the Scotchbrite wheel on the bench grinder and broke the edges. There were a lot of tooling marks on those that took a bit of time to polish out, and I'll have to do some more polishing when its time to prime. Next time I round like this I'll try the bench sander, as it's hard to get nice rounded ends on the grinder.I clecoed the doublers to the rear spar halves and matched drilled to #30, further drilling the called out places to #19 per the plans for the 2 HS-708 ribs. I then match drilled the elevator attach brackets and worked on assembling the center bearing and match drilling. I followed the instructions on this and it went out well. Drilled it out to #30 (no size was specified in the plans but the same diameter rivets are used as in the doublers). One thing I have to keep note of...it was about 10 pm and I was tired from call the night before...it's very easy to try to rush things and I found myself starting to get sloppy with my drilling. All the drilled holes turned out perfect but the potential for nastiness was there!
